Mayor raises taxes 19% and asks for 40% raise the same year.

Mayor Brainard can’t handle the truth, or at the very least he has serious issues with honesty.

This Facebook post from April 28, 2015 wasn’t just a known misstatement of fact by the Mayor it was an outright falsehood. Less than 6 months later he finalized a budget that resul

ted in the 19% tax increase for 2016.

In addition he was aware of another bad audit showing the CRC had Millions of Dollars in uncollected fees, the majority from the City of Carmel. He was not worried about either the audit or the falsehood as his opponent, Rick Sharp, was under a court ordered gag order that forbade him discussing any details of the audit till AFTER the election.

Pretty clear, he offers us a “No New taxes” message

He claims his competitor traffics in fear and lies. The Mayor claims his opponent had ‘extremist followers’ who were ‘ignoring facts’ and ‘painting scary pictures’. There was only one problem. Who was really lying? He goes on in a second post on the same day.

So the future was bright, no clouds on the horizon  –  The Mayors message ‘good times and low taxes’.

As mentioned Rick Sharp was under a gag-order and was unable to share pertinent details that would have exposed the Mayor’s lies

A funny thing happened later that same year. The Mayor proposed a budget that at first glance was not an issue or a tax buster. But we did not read the fine print, we usually don’t until it is used against us by which time it is too late.

Mayor Starts new term in 2016 in the RED with a 19% tax increase!

Then the other shoe drops and he proposes a substantial raise for himself!

All in the same year!

Carmel mayor’s budget proposes a 40 percent pay raise for himself

After pledging no tax increases during the 2015 election and saying his opponent was ‘simply playing on peoples fears’.

Immediately upon winning the election for 2016 the Mayor did raise our taxes significantly. An almost 20% tax increase  in one year.

Still, even with the tax increase, the Mayor had the gall to request a 40% pay increase later that year.

The Mayor had many lucrative opportunities. If we could have only been so lucky:

“Over the years, the Mayor has had opportunities to leave public service for the private sector, where salaries and compensation for being a corporate executive for a company the size of Carmel’s workforce would be much higher. Earlier this year, the Mayor considered a potential seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, where the salary is roughly what is being proposed now for 2017.”
